Prehistoric Age
- Paleolithic remains dating back from the 10th Century BC to tens of thousands of years ago were found in Seokjang-ri, Gongju. This indicates that human history in Chungcheongnam-do started from the Paleolithic Age.
Three Hans Period
- It is estimated that about fifteen states, including Mokji state (Jiksan, Cheonan) among the 54 states of Mahan were distributed in the Chungcheongnam-do region.

- The capital of Baekje was moved from Hanseong (Seoul) to Wungjin (Gongju) in the first year of King Munju’s reign.
578
- The capital of Baekje was moved from Wungjin (Gongju) to Sabi (Buyeo) in the 16th year of King Seong’s reign.

- Baekje was collapsed by the Silla and Tang Allied Forces in the 20th year of King Uija’s reign and Wungjin Commandery was established.

- Reorganized as Soburiju (Sabiju) in the 11th year of King Munmu’s reign.

- Renamed Wungcheonju in the 6th year of King Sinmun’s reign.

- Renamed as Wungju in the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok’s reign. Later Three States Period Included in the region of the Later Baekje established by Gyeonhwon

- Gongjumok was established by the 12-Mok System in the 3rd year of King Seongjong’s reign after Goryeo unified the Later Three States.

- Yanggwangchungchenogju-do was established by combining three provinces, Gwannae-do, Chungwon-do and Hanam-do, among ten provinces.

- Yanggwangju-do and Chungcheongju-do were divided.

- Chungcheongju-do was merged into Yanggwang-do again.

- Renamed Chungcheong-do in the 6th year of King Gongmin’s reign (It is estimated that Yanggwangchungcheongju-do was called both Yanggwang-do and Chungcheong-do for short at the end of the Goryeo period)
